we dont know every detail, but here is what we do know:

liken was stolen by the evil Kaptain Kludge the Cyborg Pirate!

Kaptain Kludge the Cyborg Pirate stole a compressed archive of liken in a moment when criticalartware flickered offline in the wwwinter of 2004. Kaptain Kludge sails the hi seas of the global interweb searching for timond treasures to steal + no other timond encrusted network swam in Kludge's starry eyes like criticalartware's liken system. Kaptain Kludge may not be Ishmael, but liken surely is his whale. Kaptain Kludge + his trusty side kick SayWootSay, the circuit bent Speak-N-Spell have set sail for Antarctic waters with their stolen booty, a compressed archive of multiple nonlinear parallel hystories of artware + new media discourses.

Kaptain Kludge + his accursed band of bitmapped buccaneers hope to sail right thru the Antarctic circle's physical portal to the hollow world inside the Earth, thus crisscrossing wormwholes + turning themselves [insideOut/outsideIn]. but first, Kludge must confront the gatekeepers + guardians of the bubbleverses. HourGlassDolphins swim the wwwintery waters of the Antarctic while simultaneously navigating the Net of Indra. HourGlassDolphins protect timonds + {entry|exit} {to|from} bubbleverses. Kludge may have stolen liken, but HourGlassDolphins may be able to stop him from absconding wit his terrible treasure. HourGlassDolphins know what we also hold tru, dat is: Discourse is the meshwork of reality.

as if in a 1995 cyberpunk dream of neon glowing nets of indestructible power + energy, HourGlassDolphins + criticalartware hope to snare Kludge before he can slip into Aiag (the Earth's inner-{mind|world}). w/o a doubt we will be joined in our cause by our dear friends + trusted comrades Sir Purrrlyn the III + Afraig the Red Dragon who defeated Liam O'Leary the Lecherous Leprechaun in Aarhus Denmark after he stole a timond from criticalartware coreDevelopers. this timond had been digitally teleported to us by the great Cat Wizard himself, Sir PurrrLyn the III who had transported timonds to us during our presentation @ Read_Me 2004. criticalartware coreDevelopers are currently wryting grants to new media funding agencies in order to travel to the Antarctic circle, join our friends the HourGlassDolphins in their organic-meta-timondMachines + do brave + chivalrous battle w/the evil Kaptain Kludge.

we travel w/o moving, attacking Kludge's ugly plans before they can unfold. yes, Kaptain Kludge has even more nefarious plans up his silver coated sleeves of sinister cybernetic power. we now know that Kludge has hatched an escape pod (as it were) + intends to kidnap the memories of the early Video Art + artware moments @ their source: key players in the early moments themselves! yes, Kludge's diabolical scheme seeks to kidnap these people from our plane of existence + transport them via unknown protocols to distant dimensions of horrible design. criticalartware will intervene + unravel this plan by banding together w/those key players themselves + re:forming our own unbreakable transmissions across this decentralized + distributed nodal network!

bensyverson continues to battle Kaptain Kludge by [rewriting/rewiring] likn (now w/o an "e") from the groundUp(); in order to beat Kludge @ his own twisted game of h4x0rz!m. jon.satrom ++ jonCates battle Kludge on the depthless wwwaters of the interweb by interviewing the key players + participants in the early Video Art moment + current artware developers. criticalartware offers these interviews as {text|audio|video} data to be freely downloaded + exchanged as shared cultural resources that re:connect the current context to its rightful past: a multitude of [personal/subjective] hyperthreaded hystories. together, we follow our paths, the theorypractices of {code|concept}-based approaches to experimental media art as software, determined to defeat Kaptain Kludge + all who would dash the hopes + promises first proposed by those early moments of Video Art + artware.
